If you are not familiar with the region, eastern North Carolina is like none other--characterized by poverty, lack of infrastructure, and tobacco-dependency--living here has been a tremendous culture shock. However, there is a small slice of innovation cropping up in the area thanks to Tesla Motors. Plymouth, NC is now home to an 8-stall Supercharger Station located within the Holiday Inn parking lot, a rather unexciting location for such technology, but if you weighed the local options it is the best bet. The station, located on US Hwy 64, will serve the hordes of travelers heading to the beach with "OBX" stickers on their bumper. As Tesla rolls out their plan to take over the world, one free charge at a time, owner satisfaction will definitely build a solid sales foundation and continue to bring Tesla to mainstream consumers. Below are some shots of the charging station--offering owners 20 minute half charges (good for an EPA est. rating of 170 miles).
Coast to coast travel via electric charge is Tesla's goal, which they have achieved through strategically located stations throughout the continental US. By 2015, Tesla's plan will bring comfort to range-fearers and piece of mind for those who are still on the proverbial electric fence.
