This week's confession comes courtesy of an anonymous Facebook submission and definitely fits the criteria of pathetic, embarrassing, or inexplicably stupid. Here it is:
After years of daydreaming, I was finally able to live a car guy's fantasy by driving a Corvette at speed on the Circuit de la Sarthe (Le Mans). Each year, the German Corvette Club is allowed a parade lap, or Tour de Piste, just prior to the start of the 24 hours.
I was near the end of the 25 Corvette line-up for what was supposed to be a slow pre-race lap of the 8 mile course. However, a series of delays caused the pace car to speed off and we all needed to keep up.
All was well and very enjoyable--the Mulsanne Straight especially.
Then things got tricky in the Ford Chicanes.
I spun the car and plowed through the overrun area--the only part of the track featuring grand stands.
